Gratitude is the word that best describes the incredible support CHREF has received from the nursery and greenhouse community! This year’s Industry Celebration raised over $15,000 in support of CHREF’s mission to advance horticulture education and research. The CHREF Board of Directors have selected several research proposals for funding. These include an industry economic impact study, research on compounds aimed at increasing plant drought tolerance, and a project focused on water conservation in landscape practices. CHREF was warmly welcomed by Colorado State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and the Department of Horticulture for a special event. Highlights included meeting current CHREF Scholars and enjoying an insightful tour of the Nutrien Agricultural Sciences Building. The day was made even more memorable by a visit with Dr. Temple Grandin, a true icon in the field of agriculture. Special thanks to Karrie Butler, Associate Director of Development at the College of Agricultural Sciences, and Dr. Mengmeng Gu, Head of the Department of Horticulture, for their warm hospitality and thoughtful coordination. CHREF directors are also continuing their strong support of Front Range Community College as the school works to expand access to horticulture education. Their ongoing efforts look to create new opportunities for students across the region to explore careers in our growing industry. — JP Malik, CHREF Program Manager |
